Planning complex structure represents cells floating in city space – quarter formations, adnated from both sides to an arch of the central parkway. Each such cell has environment – the bent house outlining quarter on perimeter inside which other houses are centripetal located. There is public center In the of a quarter-cell – school. ANATOMY of the CITY (Gerasimenko, archi.ru, 14-11-2008)
The competitive project of the quarter around the former airfield of the city of Kazan, created by the architects of the city as a living organism, is built on the idea of the city – its quarters resemble the biological “cells” strung on the axis of the curved Boulevard
In the XX century, when cities became very large, it became popular to consider them as the likeness of a living organism – a tree, or something like that. Wright’s theory of organic architecture played a significant role here. This view is relevant today: the areas of its organs, blocks-cells, each of which performs its function, and together they form a single whole – urban space.
In one of its recent projects, the workshop of Asadova presented the layout of the district in Kazan with such a living urban fabric, consisting of amoebiform formations, which are strung on a semicircular green Boulevard, like beads on a fishing line necklace. We are talking about the competitive project of planning the area on the site of the former city airport of Kazan, which customers gave the name “Seventh heaven”, thereby paying tribute to the” heavenly ” spirit of the place.
A few years ago on the airfield was built a sports complex with a racetrack, around which a Park. The next area was placed around the Racecourse as a stand-alone quarters (residential and office), located at a considerable distance from each other. Following the given conditions, the architects of the Asadov workshop came to the following planning decision: from three sides along the racetrack it was supposed to break the green Boulevard, which would be joined by the blocks, which would collect the scattered building in the space of the Park in a single urban solution.
The final concept of planning quarters was not born immediately. The architects were faced with the task of creating a new generation of urban environment, and, according to the head of the workshop Andrei Asadov, “it was important to get away from straight-line construction, rigid geometric quarters.” At first, the idea was to solve blocks in the form of “clusters”, fragments of dense urban development. Then the architects proposed a beam layout that would” scatter ” in different directions from Central Park. There was an option to build blocks “ridge” along the Central Boulevard, as well – considered the idea of creating a simulated curved streets of the old city. But all these ideas were discarded by architects because of their linearity – as having nothing to do with ideas about the modern city.
The final version appeared unexpectedly-dreamed one of the co-authors of the project, as a periodic table of chemical elements D. I. Mendeleev. The idea was a free-floating in the urban space “cells” – quarterly formations,” grown ” on both sides to the arc of the Central Boulevard. Each such “cell” is the shell – curved house around the block perimeter, inside which the centripetal located other house. In the “core” of the quarter-cell is its public center-school, and the height of the building is reduced when approaching the core and at the same time to the Boulevard, thereby visually attracting the quarter building to the Central axis.
The” cellular ” character of the layout was chosen by architects only for residential quarters. The solution of plots for offices is simpler, but no less plastic. For him, the authors resorted to the typology of the garden city of Le Corbusier, placing office towers of streamlined shapes and different sizes and diameters in a chaotic manner. They also fall towards the Central green Boulevard, participating in the creation of a single architectural composition.
In General, the competition project “the Seventh heaven” is a synthesis of previous architectural developments of the workshop “circles on water” for the city of Domodedovo and the suburban village “Zhemchuzhina” on the Novorizhskoe highway. In comparison with these works in the new project circles are transformed into more complex, curved and fluid forms with a complex internal structure, similar to the layout of the “Pearl”, but on a different scale – on the scale of the city. Here, the architects attempted to apply their urban developments to a larger area-designing a variety of ubranisticheskoy environment, similar to a fragment of a living organism. The consequence was to be the ability of this environment to future self-development.
P.S. The results of the contest “Seventh heaven” for the construction of the airfield in Kazan have not been announced, and the competition was considered invalid by customers.
